new keyboard

m_d_hFinally unboxed my new MIDI keyboard at the house, I like it better than the old one at the condo, so I might eventually replace that one with another instance of this one. [Previously at the house these past couple months I've been exploring basic music generation using my laptop keyboard.] I've been working through one of my lesson books today with GarageBand set to pretend the keyboard is a Steinway Grand Piano, while listening to it on my new pro headphones. Sounds great!
I keep saying that this is a sloooooow project and it really is, I'm just reminding myself of how to read music and listening to what various things sound like. Hit the keys hard they sound one way, hit them softly they sound a different way. Playing with feeling instead of just counting out the notes. When I was a kid I enjoyed playing random crap on the keyboard like this, it's like I'm 10 years old again, just having fun making music, without judgment, without intent.
T is taking an after-lunch nap. We're going to work on the basement when he wakes up. But I might need a nap now also :-) We still need to get that shelving unit back in the storage area instead of sitting behind our chairs in the Media Cave. I might also take some more stuff under the house. If we could get the Media Cave back to normal this afternoon?
T seems OK with me leaving the new keyboard out for a while so I can practice on it more often, working through these "Later Beginner" lessons -- I found a series of lesson books that are meant as a refresher course.
I stretched and took Dax on a walk, but decided to let the basement work be my main exercise for the day -- hopefully it really happens later.
