I got pissed off at the polyamory subreddit so I'm taking some time away from it. The topic was relationships with age differences. Some people expressed their beliefs that dating somebody who is more than a few years younger or older is disturbing or immoral. One person in particular said that most of the older people who date younger people are immature and stuck at a younger stage of development.
I called this BS and said that each person and each relationship should be judged on its own merits, and I wanted to know where she got this information that "most" of the older people who date younger people are immature -- I called that prejudice. She didn't answer my question, instead she threw other questions back at me, so I dropped off. Don't argue with bigots on the Internet, Bug.
For decades now I've believed that consenting adults of any age can date other consenting adults of any age -- anywhere from 18 to 99 -- I find offensive (and irrational) the commonplace age ranges that people use to screen potential dates. And I've complained in here how difficult it is for me to get the attention of guys who are my own age on the hookup apps, I find it much much easier to attract younger guys. This doesn't mean I'm immature or stuck at some younger stage of development -- whatever that even means. I don't restrict myself to interacting with younger guys, or from interacting with older guys, but as I continue to get older a larger proportion of the adult population is younger than me, so ...
This casual prejudice on the poly subreddit angered me, because these are people who themselves are subject to the prejudices of a mainly monogamous world. It's tough enough finding other available poly gay males, why restrict myself to only available poly gay males who are between 50-56 years old?
